Trabzonspor has initiated a move to sign goalkeeper Andre Onana permanently from Manchester United. The club's management plans to start negotiations during the mid-season transfer window, without waiting for the campaign to end.

Club President Ertuğrul Doğan stated they want Onana to continue his career in the burgundy-and-blue jersey. This move shows the club's satisfaction with the Cameroonian's performances since he joined on loan following Ugurcan Çakır's transfer to Galatasaray last season. Onana has achieved a save percentage of 81.5% this term.

Onana himself expressed his contentment with life in Trabzon and the value shown by the club and fans, saying "I will stay." However, Manchester United reportedly plans to sell the player, whose contract has one year remaining this summer, rather than loan him out again. This makes Trabzonspor's upcoming talks key.

The team currently sits 7th in the Süper Lig with 10 points from 6 matches, having recorded 2 wins and 3 losses in their last five outings. Retaining an experienced goalkeeper like Onana is vital for shoring up the defence during this inconsistent run of form.

Trabzonspor's next match is away to Samsunspor on Saturday, 10 October. It represents a key test for a side looking to solidify its league position.
