Trabzonspor appointed German coach Thomas Reis on Thursday following the dismissal of Fatih Tekke. The move aims to improve the fortunes of a side sitting 9th in the Süper Lig with 7 points from 5 games.
Speaking at his unveiling, Reis said, "When you receive an offer from a big club like Trabzonspor, you accept it quickly without wasting much time." The new boss confirmed he has spoken with star forward Mohamed Salah, who has 4 goals in 5 appearances this season, and promised to give him freedom in attack.
However, Reis emphasised the need for a collective effort over reliance on any individual. "But we don't need Salah alone to win matches, we need all the players." he stated. He linked this philosophy to his mentality of 'few words and a lot of work' from his previous role at Samsunspor.
Work After The Break
Reis noted the team will have more time to work after the international break and pledged to improve the situation through collective effort. His first test will be a daunting home derby against league leaders Galatasaray on 19 September 2026. Details of that fixture and others are on our fixtures page.
Trabzonspor's form has been inconsistent, losing 1-0 to Konyaspor last time out after a 5-0 thrashing of Gençlerbirliği S.K. The new coach will need to address this volatility quickly. The current standings show the club is 6 points off the top, requiring a string of positive results. Thomas Reis held his first press conference as manager on the Thursday he signed his contract.
