Start
The 34-year-old Egyptian star Mohamed Salah joined Trabzonspor on a two-year contract after leaving Liverpool. He failed to score in his first two matches - a 1-1 draw with Kasımpaşa and a 1-0 defeat to Ferencváros - but on 23 August, in his first Süper Lig start, he put the team ahead against İstanbul Başakşehir.
Goal Details
Salah opened the scoring in the 8th minute when Başakşehir goalkeeper Muhammed Sengezer failed to hold the ball after a cross from Aral Şimşir. The 19th minute saw Eldor Şomurodov convert a penalty awarded after VAR review, levelising the score. In the 48th minute, Salah burst down the right, exchanged passes with Ernest Muci and finished from the far corner, restoring the lead. Two stoppage-time attempts were ruled out for a foul and an offside.
Result and Future
Trabzonspor’s 2-1 win places them fourth in the Süper Lig table with four points, level with Samsunspor and Galatasaray, and two points behind Gençlerbirliği. They now face Ferencváros in the Europa League play-off second leg on Wednesday, needing to overturn a 1-0 deficit to reach the group stage.
Additional Info
Salah transferred from Liverpool on a free and had a trophy-laden nine-year spell. He received a yellow card in the 79th minute for a perceived dive in the penalty area. The team will travel to Amed SK on 31 August for their next league match.
